Today I received my bloodwork screening results from the 9news Health Fair. I am floored at the results and now need to find the path back to good health. I am 50 years 5 months old, unemployed, experiencing menopause, and without health insurance. I will be updating this blog as I review my options but first I'll go over the basics that I need to improve:
Weight today: 190 lbs
Daily activity: sit in front of the computer approx 6 hrs/day, Zumba on Fridays if my daughter isn't busy.
I smoke approx 1/2 pack/day
Results to work on:
Glucose: 98 after a 12 hour fast
Sodium: 140
Cholesterol, serum: 237
Triglycerides, serum: 632
HDL cholesterol: 28
There is no time or need to understand how I got in this state of health - I just wasn't paying attention. Now I have to act and get a handle on this so I'm in good health when I'm 80 and so I'll make it to 80.

ReplyDeleteWeight loss to date: 12 lbs
Triglycerides: 453
Made the weight but was disqualified for a womens study on oesteoporosis/menopause/new drugs due to the triglycerides. Bummer but the quest to health goes on. I'll just have to continue to live with the hot flashes, mood swings, night sweats, smelly dog, dirty dishes... ;))
Update: On Feb 18, 2010 I quit smoking and am still smoke-free to date. I joined another womens study which involved a medication to help with certain aspects of menopause but since it was mostly an anti-depressant it didn't work for that problem. However, it did get me out of a 1 1/2 year black hole only to discover that we have waded thru almost our entire savings with me no closer to a job than I was at the beginning of 2009. Doug was down to his part-time gig work so we needed closer to that work which we did in Aug 2010. Found a part time job in Oct 2010 but stress and worry put my weight back to 185. Went to the 9Health Fair to get a base for the CBCs. Doug was asked to rejoin his home-based full time job and the gig work exploded. Things are getting better in that dept. Still dealing with menopause symptoms and lack of full time employment myself but 2011, 2012, and 2013 were survived. Weight is going down slowly but steadily. Still not smoking but not exercising enough either. 2014 is a new challenge.
